As part of October Dyslexia Awareness Month, the Dyslexia Parents Group of Lexington and the Lexington Special Education Parent Teacher Association (LexSEPTA/LexSEPAC) will show a screening of The Big Picture: Rethinking Dyslexia. This HBO documentary provides accounts of the dyslexic experience from children, experts, and iconic leaders at the top of their fields to help us understand that dyslexia can be as great a gift as it sometimes is an obstacle. DRS. SALLY and BENNETT SHAYWITZ, co-directors of the Yale Center for Dyslexia & Creativity, discuss the scientific origins of dyslexia and explain that, while often associated with problems with reading, dyslexia is also associated with a superior ability to think out of the box, create original ideas, and see the big picture.
The film screening will be followed by a group discussion in a supportive environment. Please note, this is an adults only event. We will have another film screening and discussion with kids at another date.
